14th May – 20th May National Volunteer Week
National Volunteer Week promotes volunteering within the Australian community and supports
not-for-profit organisations nation-wide in increasing their volunteer base.
Aspire Fitness supports an organisation called SolarisCare based at Sir Charles Gardiner Hospital. It is a cancer support centre which offers a free service to cancer patients and their carers. SolarisCare offers complimentary therapies given alongside mainstream cancer treatments of surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
Services offered free of charge at the Centre by the volunteers include reflexology, massage, counseling, beauty therapy, art classes, Reiki and Bowen therapy.
Aspire Fitness offers an exercise session every Tuesday and Thursday from 11am to 12pm at Aspire for all cancer patients and their carers. This is known as the Chemo Club. The sessions are always attended by a physiotherapist, exercise physiologist and trained nurses who are all volunteers. We are always looking for extra volunteers for our Chemo Club. So if you would like to volunteer your time once a week, once a month or once off then we would love to have you. The only qualification you need is the ability to have a chat and have a smile from ear to ear! |
